Frequently Asked Questions
Using the Clay
How Do I Use and/or Apply the Pascalite Clay?
This depends on what you are using the clay for. For a poultice (paste), the most popular method is to mix the powder with water — alternating small amounts of each until you reach your desired consistency — then apply generously to the affected area. Keep the paste damp or wet for several hours, or as long as possible, before rinsing off. A damp paper towel, gauze, or washcloth placed over the area and secured with plastic wrap works well. Re-apply as often as needed.
Some customers like to mix Pascalite with yogurt, honey, aloe vera, coconut oil, apple cider vinegar, or other favorites — we encourage you to experiment. The powder can also be sprinkled into bath water or used dry as a deodorant or body powder.
How Does It Work?
Clay is a natural, living medium with both adsorbent and absorbent properties. It is negatively charged, which means it naturally attracts positively charged toxins — like a magnet — binding to them and helping the body eliminate them. It also soaks up impurities like a sponge, drawing them away from affected tissue.
Clay seems to have an innate ability to go where it is needed most, centering itself at the source of toxins or impurities and working to draw them out. In this way, many have described clay as functioning with a kind of wisdom.
What Is It Made Of?

How Much Pascalite Should I Use?
There is no single recommended amount, as every person is different. Start with a smaller amount and increase if you're not seeing results, or decrease if you experience any unwanted effects. We've found that what matters most is ensuring the affected area comes into good contact with the clay — more is not necessarily better.
How Do I Use the Clay for Cataracts?
For an eye rinse, we recommend using the Pascalite Superfine Powder, as it is finer and less grainy than the regular powder. Mix a small spoonful into a glass of clean water, let it settle for a few minutes, then use the water from the top. Apply with an eye dropper, eye cup, or syringe — whichever works best for you.
With the Superfine Powder, there's no need to wait for settling; you can use the cloudy water directly. Keep the solution covered when not in use to protect it from contaminants, and re-stir as needed. Some customers also make a paste of Pascalite and water, apply it around the eye area, and keep it damp with a wet cloth.
How Do I Use the Clay to Detox?
Clay works like a magnet and a sponge — it is negatively charged and naturally attracts positively charged toxins such as heavy metals, binding to them so they can be eliminated from the body.
Many customers add Pascalite to their bath water for a full-body detox. The amount is a matter of personal preference, so experiment to find what works best for you. Simply sprinkle some into the tub before getting in and let it wash down the drain when finished. Pascalite clay will not harm your pipes.
Can I Use the Clay on My Animals?
Yes! Pascalite is beneficial for all kinds of animals. It soothes skin irritations, works as a deodorant, and can be sprinkled dry into fur or used on minor wounds, bites, and injuries. It's also relaxing in bath water, and some customers use Pasca-Glow soap to wash their pets. Pascalite has been used successfully on cats, dogs, horses, cattle, goats, llamas, birds, and more. We even add it to our own pets' water dishes to support overall health.
Products & Storage
What is the Difference Between the Pascalite Powder and the Superfine Powder?
The Superfine Powder is a byproduct of our regular Pascalite Powder, obtained during processing. The only difference is texture — the Superfine has the feel of baby powder, while the regular powder is slightly more grainy. Both can be used for the same purposes; it's simply a matter of personal preference. Because our supply of Superfine is limited, it is priced slightly higher.
What is the Shelf Life of Pascalite Clay Powder?
The powder itself has no shelf life, as long as it is stored sealed to prevent moisture, odors, and air contaminants from absorbing into the clay. Our handmade products — Pasca-Pak, Pasca-Balm, and Pasca-Glow — contain no preservatives, so they may become slightly stale over extended periods, though this has not been reported to affect their effectiveness. A few drops of warm water can be added to the Pasca-Pak or Pasca-Balm at any time to restore your preferred consistency.
Why Does Pascalite Say "External Use Only" on the Label?
In the past, Pascalite was sold for both internal and external use. We changed our marketing to external use only following involvement by the FDA, which tested a small sample of Pascalite and found naturally occurring lead levels they were not satisfied with. Our own testing shows levels ranging from 16–24 ppm (0.0016–0.0024%), which is naturally occurring and not bioavailable to the body — different in form from harmful types such as lead in paint.
We want to be clear: in over 50 years of operation, we have had no confirmed reports of anyone becoming ill, poisoned, or injured from using Pascalite internally or externally. As a small company, we chose to comply and sell for external use only in order to keep Pascalite available to those who benefit from it. How a person chooses to use it is their own decision.
